PlayThing

It's a Macintosh IIvx - yes, a IIvx! This is the model Apple discontinued after being available for only 10 months (that was an odd thing back in the early 1990's you see) the only Mac with a shorter time than that was probably the MacTV ;)

PlayThing used to be the Emma's Mac, before StrawMac came along. He was then used by Maddy, but when we redid the office, he lost his place, and got deprecated to the basement. I'd like to see his return sometime soon, my thinking is that he'll make a good webcam machine when paired up with the QuickCam. PlayThing may be a bit old, but I had it up to System 7.5.5 I believe, and in 1999 it was running MacPerl 5, how's that for neat-0-cool!

PlayThing has a 32 Mhz 68030 processor (which was horribly slow even back in the early 1990's) and has a hobbled system bus designed right into it. It's got about 20 mb of ram too. Woohoo! Hey, I used to build web sites on this machine! After I got it I had always contemplated whether I should have got a IIci... I still wonder that...
