See, I had a canoe. When we were renting (in between selling one house and buying another) there was this canoe, back behind the garage, buried in the snow. The landlord had bought the house in August of 2000, but they never got to do the actual closing until the very end of January 2001. So after the residents of the 3rd floor were evicted, they came back a few weeks later and stole a motorcycle that was also behind the garage. I then asked the landlord abut the canoe, and he said "You want it? Take it!" So I did...

This was March, and most people don't go out boating until May or so, but dammit if I was gonna wait, I was a proud new boat owner! I took it out for the first time in April and it was goooood... We took the kids to the park with it one day, we were having a blast! The move was coming soon and we had a plan... see we can get to the lake by walking through the park, and while we didn't have 'official' lake access, we could drag the canoe right from our backyard, through the park, and into the lake. Smooth!

So at the end of May moving day comes. On moving day (which happened to be Memorial Day, and there just happened to be a parade...) People are moving stuff, I'm not at the old house, and this 'guy' shows up, and starts demanding his canoe, accusing us of stealing it. Seems it's the guy who sold the house in August of 2000 (with a closing in January of 2001) now showing up the last week of May of 2001, demanding his canoe! I didn't meet the guy, but from what I've heard he's a real [EXPLETIVE DELETED]! He tried to wrangle the canoe onto his car and failed while people laughed at him. He said he'd be back later. We would have called the landlord, but he was out of town. I was advised to not get into the middle of it, as this guy was a complete [EXPLETIVE DELETED] and would make our lives a living hell if we got involved in any way. So we didn't...

Next time we went to the old house, the canoe was gone from the side of the garage where I kept it. Damn... no more canoe... or do it seemed! We came back a few days later, and the landlord was there. He says "Aren't you going to take the canoe?" and we tell him the story, and he then says "The canoe is behind the garage!" AHA! Seems the 'guy' hid it behind the garage, and rolled a trailer in front of it. So the landlord says "Take it!" and helps me load it on the van - and THEN - just as we do... a car pulls up! Out gets a different guy who says he works for the other guy and he just 'happened' to be driving buy and noticed the canoe. He then explained how he was coming tomorrow with the guy to pick it up. So we upload the damn thing, and lose it again! Yes, twice!!! The landlord said that if he didn't come get it tomorrow he would cut it up and put it on the curb. (Later we laughed hysterically at this statement...)

So we have no boat. We are boatless once again... and it sucks...
