tafkap
Genius... That's the only word to describe the artists formerly know as Prince. I can't accurately reproduce the symbol which is now his name in standard html, so I won't try. I'll just use the moniker 'tafkap'
Now I've never really been a fan of mr. tafkap, and I've never really enjoyed his music. Not really my cup of tea, as the kids say. So what makes me label him a genius? It's simple really... and I'll explain.
See, most cultural icons don't stick around for a long time, especially in the world of music. A world I'm intimately familiar with. Sure there's exceptions, the Beatles, Elvis, PowerThrash... but for every Clash, there's a Transvision Vamp. How many have been in the spotlight for just a brief second - that fleeting glimpse of being numero uno, the big cheese. And how many more never even get a flashlight, let alone a spotlight shone upon them.
tafkap is different.
As I'm typing this, my Mac says it's 1997, and I'm pretty sure it's right. In 3 years it will be the year 2000, or y2k as it's commonly called. My Mac will probably still report the right time to me (depending on your computer, mileage may vary) Anyway, back to tafkap. Now even if you're not a tafkap fan, and were never a Prince fan, chances are you've heard his song... yes, the song, the theme song... get ready!
Party likes it's 1999!
Believe me when I say, without a doubt that the song 'Party like it's 1999' or whatever it's called, will be the biggest song of the year. The year being, of course 1999. But it will start gaining momentum just before new years 1999. So by late 1998 people will start looking for copies of it. It'll probably be re-released, digitally remastered in 3-d, thx, fully html 5.0 compliant, and backwards compatible. If I could buy shares of this song, I would.
And it'll keep going... Programmers hard at work on the y2k problem will adopt it as a theme song, reminding them how nice it would be if 1999 were forever and the year 2000 would never come! All those lines of code!
If Windows 98 slips to Windows 99, mr. gates could pay a gazillion dollars or so to mr tafkap for the rights to the song. Then microsoft could use it for the launch of their operating system, because face it, if it slips past 1999, would you use an operating system called Windows 00? That would make 00 the successor to 95, so the next operating system would have to be called like Windows -05 so something...
Where were we... oh yes, back to mr tafkap. He's no fool. Nope. A certified genius. You don't think he knew all of this?! Back in 82, or whenever the song came out, he was well aware that he woundn't be on the top of the heap forever, and new that in order to orchestrate a comeback, something not easy in the music world (just ask Duran Duran) he'd need a hook. A 'killer app' in the music world. And that killer is, without a doubt. Party like it's 1999. Don't believe me, just wait... You'll see...
P.S. I found a logo
P.P.S. Tafkap is a wicked cool name!
