This week in TidBits they get into choosing a CMS that will work for them. It should be interesting…

Water, Water, Everywhere!
Whew, what a weekend! I spent about 5 hours replacing the pipes under our kitchen sink, that includes two trips to the hardware store, and having to replace the seal on the disposal, which also seemed to be leaking. It wasn’t quite the great flood of 2003, but we did lose some books on a basement shelf due to water damage. I really don’t care for plumbing too much, of course the chance of being electrocuted is much less than when I attempt wiring tasks. Next on the home improvement schedule is more painting, and while I often complain about painting (ok, I complain about a lot) I don’t mind painting too much…
NT No More
Psssst…
Wanna know the real reason Microsoft won’t issue a patch to Windows NT 4?
They lost the source!
That’s right. See, with a piece of software that’s open-source, even if the original source files go away, there’s gonna be somebody out there with a copy of the source. There will be a mirror to download it from, or someone on a mailing list will have every tarball on a CD in their basement. But since Microsoft delivers only closed-source binaries, they didn’t notice at first when someone needed more room on some Windows share and deleted the directory containing all of the Windows NT source code.
But what about backups? Well, they tried using the Windows Backup Utility, but it didn’t work. The index was corrupt or something…
Well, that’s my theory anyway…

Today’s IM excerpt:

drew: thanks, looks like i’m in there
pete: remember when you use sudo, you are basically root, and can destroy the system with one wrong command
pete: have fun!
drew: woo hoo!!

amphetafeed me
Did you ever wish you could add a channel to AmphetaDesk while it’s not running? Sure you have… Well, I know I have, and I know Aaron has. So I bugged Aaron a bit, and bugged Morbus a bit, and messed with Aaron’s original code and got amphetafeed.pl, which should let you add a channel to AmphetaDesk while it’s not running.
It works for me anyway. amphetafeed.pl is over in code/src/amphetadesk
