Job via Blog?

From Tom Raftery’s I.T. views comes mention of a Boston Globe article about how having a blog can help you get a job. I’ll be testing that theory starting today.

You want to hire me? Great! Just contact me, we’ll start a conversation, and see where it goes from there. (I can even send you a resume if you want one.)

There are over 8 1/2 years of archives here for you to browse through, or try using your favorite search engine with my name (it’s Pete Prodoehl) and see what comes up. I’ve been involved in the early days of blogging, podcasting, and videoblogging, and have been building things on the web for over 10 years.

Oh, I’d prefer something close to where I live (Milwaukee, Wisconsin) but telecommuting is an option. Like I said, contact me and we’ll talk. Thanks!

More or Less

The folks at Apple wanted to let us know the new MacBook Pro is “The art of more.” More features! More speed! More brightness! More! More! More!

MacBook Pro is More!

But the folks at 37signals keep telling us that “less is better.” Less features! Less options! Less! Less! Less!

37signals is Less!

So who do we believe? Are they of two different worlds?

Actually, I think both companies strive for simplicity in their systems. While no one wants to think of buying “less” computer (we always want bigger, faster, more in hardware, don’t we?) people do like simplicity in their software. Both Apple and 37signals try to offer simple, easy to use software, and I think they’re both succeeding in that area.

Date Problems

It’s not easy being all nutty about dates…

When signing up for another online service, I was presented with the following form:

Dates of confusion

The part with “Which Looks Right” stopped me, not because it’s not even labelled ‘Date‘, I mean, I’m guessing that it’s a date thing, but I could be wrong here. Maybe it’s some sort of captcha or math problem, I dunno… Anyway…

The “Which Looks Right” stopped me because neither one looks right to me. To look “right” to me it would be 2005-02-14, though I suppose I could also accept 02/14/2005 if forced to. 4-digit years people! YYYY-MM-DD formatting people! Come on!

Mena White?

I was watchin a video from Markus Sandy that featured an interview with Mena Trott of Six Apart. I often work while having videos playing on my second monitor, so I was just-barely watching, but as I was, I almost thought I was watching a White Stripes video. Am I the only one who sees a resemblance?

Mena White?

Luckily, the “Mena Trott Six Apart” text reassured me as to who it really was…
