Harold and the History of Podcasting

Worth a read for more background on the whole podcasting thing: Harold Gilchrist’s My contribution to Audioblogging/Podcasting

Chances are you hear a few names tossed about with the words “invented” and “podcasting” near them, but I’d recommend a bit of history, and Harold can provide some… Each person knows what they brought to the story, but often everyone else only knows what they’re told by the media.

XAMPP (Now for Mac OS X!)

XAMPP provides an (easy) install of Apache, MySQL, PHP and Perl. You can get it from the Apache Friends, which sounds like some league of superheros, and to those trying to install all of the above mentioned components, they just might be.

The Mac OS X version is still in beta, but if the word “beta” bothers you, well, then I don’t know what to tell you, since beta nowadays just seems to mean “we reserve the right to have bugs, so don’t complain about it” or something like that…

Useful Spam

What? Are you crazy? Useful Spam?

Yes, I’ve found a use for spam. See, I’ve got this mail server that now and then has some reliability issues, and while I’m on some mailing lists, and some of them are even semi-high volume, when you want to see if your mail server is really working, just check the spam folder. Chances are, you (if you’re like me) should see at least a few (dozen) spam every hour. So, I just need to check my spam folder and make sure I have a steady stream of spam, and I then know the mail server is doing it’s job and keeping the mail flowing.

See? You can put a positive spin on anything…

Poor ev

Aw, man, poor ev! He went and sold that Blogger thing to Google and tried to show them what blogging was all about but they just didn’t get it.

He’s probably so distraught about the whole thing he can barely count the huge bags of money he got from the deal…

Whew, I can thank my lucky stars I don’t have to contend with such conflict in life…

Eat Cake!

Hey, who doesn’t like cake? I know I do! Kim, who I knew back in school when I was a younger lad, alerted me to the fact that Debbie, another schoolyard aquaintence, runs a place called “Eat Cake!” and you can see www.eatcakemilwaukee.com for more on that, or see this OnMilwaukee.com article on Debbie for even more…

So, you know, if you’re near Milwaukee, and need a cake, go see Debbie…

Oh, if you’re not into cake, but just want to see what Scott Smith, or Pyscho Johnny have to say, that’s fine too…
