Moxi/Open-source

Moxi/Open-source
I mentioned my Moxi last year, and as you know, it runs Linux. I did not mention that when you look at the Terms/Copyright screens, you can read the software license info, which contains mention of the GPL. What an oversight!

So I’ve created a Flickr set named Moxi/Open-source which show the licensing info.

Down with YouTube!

Finally! People are starting to dislike YouTube: YouTube sees user rebellion.

Thanks to sites like Freevlog, Ourmedia, Blip.tv and others, it’s easy to put your own video online. You don’t need to rely on some dodgy company that made it’s name violating copyright. I mean, if YouTube doesn’t respect the rights of media creators and owners with teams of lawyers behind them, what makes you think they are going to respect you?

If you are interested in putting video you’ve created online in a blog-like format, you should check out the Yahoo! Videoblogging Group. If you are just interested in distributing video which you did not create, and which you have no rights to distribute, then I can’t really help you with that.

Okoboji University

Okoboji University
Last fall I picked up this Okoboji University shirt at a rummage sale for a dollar. (I know, I’m a big spender!) I had no clue where Okoboji University was, I thought perhaps Hawaii or something, but once I hit up the Wikipedia for Okoboji, it was all made clear…

The Three Sons are behind it all, and you can get your very own University of Okoboji gear directly from them. If you want to learn more about the real Okoboji, go to okoboji.com, you will learn that it’s “Home of the Mythical University of Okoboji.”

I think I learned a lot at Okoboji University.

Job via Blog?

From Tom Raftery’s I.T. views comes mention of a Boston Globe article about how having a blog can help you get a job. I’ll be testing that theory starting today.

You want to hire me? Great! Just contact me, we’ll start a conversation, and see where it goes from there. (I can even send you a resume if you want one.)

There are over 8 1/2 years of archives here for you to browse through, or try using your favorite search engine with my name (it’s Pete Prodoehl) and see what comes up. I’ve been involved in the early days of blogging, podcasting, and videoblogging, and have been building things on the web for over 10 years.

Oh, I’d prefer something close to where I live (Milwaukee, Wisconsin) but telecommuting is an option. Like I said, contact me and we’ll talk. Thanks!

More or Less

The folks at Apple wanted to let us know the new MacBook Pro is “The art of more.” More features! More speed! More brightness! More! More! More!

MacBook Pro is More!

But the folks at 37signals keep telling us that “less is better.” Less features! Less options! Less! Less! Less!

37signals is Less!

So who do we believe? Are they of two different worlds?

Actually, I think both companies strive for simplicity in their systems. While no one wants to think of buying “less” computer (we always want bigger, faster, more in hardware, don’t we?) people do like simplicity in their software. Both Apple and 37signals try to offer simple, easy to use software, and I think they’re both succeeding in that area.
