In using SCP to move files between machines, if the path or file has spaces in it, this will not work:
scp foo.com:/home/fubar/some\ folder/file.txt ./
And neither will this:
scp foo.com:"/home/fubar/some folder/file.txt" ./
But this will:
scp foo.com:"/home/fubar/some\ folder/file.txt" ./
So be sure to use double quotes to enclose the path and escape the spaces with a backslash.

Oh sure, I know, there are people (and companies) out there that don’t like Apple, or those pesky Macs they keep making. (Weren’t they supposed to go out of business 10 years ago?) Now when it comes to companies not liking Apple, you might think Microsoft tops the list, unless you think of Apple as Microsoft’s R&D Department. Anyway, from what I hear, if you want to find Mac-hating, look to Garmin.
Dig through the macmap Yahoo! Group and you’ll find many messages about this subject, here’s a good one that mentioned how Garmin has never supported the Mac and has no intention of doing so.
So what are Mac-owning potential GPS buyers to do? Well, we can either hope that Garmin changes it’s tune and supports the Mac at some point (unlikely?) or try to find another company that will support the computers we use. (doubtful?)
I’m considering the purchase of a GPS this year, and Garmin is making it very hard for me to send any of my money their way since there seems to be little chance they will support my choice of computing platform.
Garmin = Jerks
Things have been a bit quiet around here lately, don’t worry that will change…
Without getting into too much detail, 2005 will be a time of great change. I will most likely dump the landline phone, and rely on cellular and VoIP solutions, I plan to use the canoe a lot this summer, exploring the rivers near me, I’ll get a new digital camera that I can actually take with me and use for photography, and maybe even a GPS. I’ll replace the old Dodge with something a little more reliable, and most of all I’ll try to work smarter, which may mean working less sometimes, and working more other times.
So the times, they are a changing, and it’ll be interesting indeed.
You know how people ask you to do something, and it’s a simple task for you, and you do it, and email them back with something like “Done!” or “All set!” and then you get their response, and it’s one of those “Thanks” emails? You know, the kind that usually just says “Thanks!” and nothing else?
I’ve already gotten 4 of those today. I’m on fire! Watch out! I just might help you out, and then you’ll be sending me a “Thanks!” email…
(It could happen…)
