Here or There…

Here or There...

When you want to see things happen where you are, and they aren’t happening, or they aren’t happening fast enough… I think you have two choices:

1. Go to where things are happening, and try to join in with the people making things happen, and be a part of the things that are happening.

2. Make things happen.*

* Option #2 may require you to work your ass off. Don’t let that stop you.

Makerspace Eggs

Milwaukee Makerspace Egg

As I mentioned previously, the Milwaukee Makerspace Grand Opening & Mini Maker Fair is coming up (Saturday, April 9th, 2011!) and since I plan to bring Egg-Bot, I figured I should have something to show…

So why not this Milwaukee Makerspace Egg!

If you want one, bring your own egg to the open house. (Or I’ll try to remember to bring a bunch of eggs.)

Stippled

It’s another stippled piece, as I wasn’t loving the way the line version was coming out (I think I need to play with the pen speed settings a bit more) so I figured the stippler would do for now… also, it takes a while to complete, so you get to watch the Egg-Bot in action.

Facebookers, you can RSVP if you’d like… I hope to see you there!

Emma’s Owl

owl

You know, I don’t think I made anything that spectacular this weekend, so I’ll turn the spotlight on my daughter Emma who managed to create this awesome piece of artwork for one of her siblings.

She didn’t want to reveal it until it was complete (which I totally understand, because I sometimes do the same thing) but she did need my help doing just one thing… cutting the piece of wood. Other than that, I didn’t see it until it was done.

She got an owl pattern online as a starting point, and then cut out pieces of paper, glued them down, and mod-podged over it all to seal it.

I think it turned out awesome!

OK, I’ll claim one more part of this… I always tell my kids to “make” something for someone it the family when they have a birthday, as I don’t think kids should have to feel like they need to buy gifts for one another, so really, she took my advice. (File under “proud“)

My Helicopter

Bell 206 Jetranger Helicopter

Hey, I drew this helicopter for you. Just for you! OK, it’s for me too… and actually, I traced it, but I did add an awesome blue sky with some clouds.

On the Wikipedia page for Helicopter is a photo, and that photo is a Bell 206 Jetranger Helicopter owned by the LAPD, and that’s the image I used to create my drawing.

And that awesome sky? If you are in Photoshop, and go under Filters to Render, the first option is Clouds, so that’s what I used. I tricked out the perspective a bit to make it even more awesome.

When I was a kid, I really liked helicopters, and thought they were way cooler than airplanes (though not as cool as spaceships) and I figured one day I might be a helicopter pilot, or you know, at least get to fly in one. I think I was into helicopters even before Airwolf or Blue Thunder, and I do remember playing Choplifter a lot as a kid.

I’m an adult now, and while I’ve been inside helicopters, I’ve never actually been inside a helicopter that has taken flight. Being an adult is disappointing, and boring, and lame, and stupid sometimes.

But since it’s the future I do get to use a powerful supercomputer with a pressure-sensitive stylus interface to make these amazing drawings.
