Song: My Three Guns

Frenetic Stereoear Here’s the ninth song from the album “Frenetic Stereoear” titled “My Three Guns.”

This song is terrible. Really. Maybe not. I don’t really like it that much. I went back into it to re-work things once, and improved it slightly, but right now I really don’t care for it. It uses Club Dance Beat 050, mixed with fast loud guitars, which I thought would be a weird/funny juxtaposing of things. I guess it is. Maybe.

I actually do like the guitar sound used, and maybe the last 1/3rd of the song. I think it’s called “My Three Guns” because it has 3 guitar tracks.

On a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being awesome) I’ll give this song a 3½. Ugh…

Song: Carmaggedeon San Diego

Here’s the eighth song from the album “Frenetic Stereoear” titled “Carmaggedeon San Diego.”

For this song I took “Vintage Drum Machine Pat 73″ and slowed it down… I do this sometimes to get away from the typical drum loop sound, by altering it somehow, hoping it’ll make it less “loopy.” The intro/outro and background noise is the engine from my car, which also influenced the name of the song.

Again, this song it really simple… probably too simple, and I dug the guitar sound I was getting with the previous song, so I stuck with that.

I noticed that some of these songs (style and title) remind me of the sort of stuff you’d hear from Shadowy Men On A Shadowy Planet or (to a much lesser extent) Man Or Astroman? and I’m OK with that, as I like both of them, and I really like surf music.

On a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being awesome) I’ll give this song a 6, mainly because I really like the guitar “solo” part of the song.

Song: Surfie Don’t Char

Frenetic Stereoear Here’s the seventh song from the album “Frenetic Stereoear” titled “Surfie Don’t Char.”

Surfie_Dont_Char.mp3

The spray you hear in the song isn’t the ocean, it’s a can of spray paint, and of course “Surfie Don’t Char” is a riff on “Charlie Don’t Surf” which involves The Clash, a movie, and some other things, none of which this song deals with. It’s just a surf sounding song, so I used the name. I also used a drum loop from Brian P. Hogan. (Thanks Brian!)

On a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being awesome) I’ll give this song a 7. After I recorded this song, I considered doing an entire surf album, which I didn’t, but I’d still like to do someday. Maybe next year!

Song: Quadruple-A Battery

Frenetic Stereoear Here’s the sixth song from the album “Frenetic Stereoear” titled “Quadruple-A Battery.”

Quadruple-A_Battery.mp3

This one has a number of different guitar tracks/sounds in it (4 to be precise) and a wah-wah kind of bass. It’s a simple song, but with a few extra bits thrown in, and some nice counter rhythm. As usual, the drums are pretty boring. As for the name… I can’t remember why I called it “Quadruple-A Battery,” but I like it.

On a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being awesome) I’ll give this song a 6. I actually think this one is a little short, and I could have explored it a bit more… Maybe I will in the future.

Song: Attack of the Mole People

Frenetic Stereoear Here’s the fifth song from the album “Frenetic Stereoear” titled “Attack of the Mole People.”

I had a hard time mixing this one, but in the end, I think it turned out OK. The sounds at the beginning and end of the song are from the lift on the Light Force truck. When we were loading it one day I had the recorder running to capture background noise. The title is in reference to the Mole-Richardson lights we were using that day.

On a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being awesome) I’ll give this song a 6. It’s got a heavy-ish sound to it, which I like.
