Art Robots at DamCamp
DamCamp is coming up on Saturday, March 24th, 2012 in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin… and I’ll be there talking about Art Robots, machines that draw, and other various nerdy things.
So besides the Egg-Bot, I’ll also have the Friday Night Drawbot there, and talk about a number of other art robots I’ve seen, and would like to someday build.
There’s been so much intersection between art and technology lately (at least in the groups I’m involved with) that I’m really hoping for a lively discussion. Of course we’ll also have a fun demo too.
Since the event is being put on by Beaver Dam’s fledgling makerspace project, I thought printing a Make Magazine egg would be a good introduction to the magazine and blog for those who might not be familiar with it yet… :)

If I haven’t bugged you about it yet, I’ll be at The Tool at Hand Milwaukee Challenge with a piece I created using just one tool.
There’s a little background on it here, and a post about it here, and you can RSVP on Facebook.
But besides all that, it’s at Sweet Water Organics, 2151 S. Robinson Avenue in Milwaukee, from 1pm to 5pm on March 17th, 2012. I hope to see you there.
And here’s a sneak peek at my piece:
Update: Enough waiting… you can see it here: rasterweb.net/raster/projects/plasticsun/
Drawbot at City Hall!
Our own little Friday Night Drawbot got invited to City Hall!
(OK, well, that’s not exactly what happened, but that’s how I plan to tell the story…)
Milwaukee Makerspace took part in the first Art Jamboree held recently by the fine folks at Art Milwaukee, and while I couldn’t attend, the spunky little Friday Night Drawbot was able to make it, and he did his best to wow the crowd with his take on robotic art.
So here’s the deal… join us Friday, March 9th, 2012 at Milwaukee’s City Hall for the Art Jamboree, and if you’re lucky, you’ll walk away with art created by a Sharpie-wielding robot.
I’ll be there this time, and I hope to see you there as well.
Eggbraham Lincoln
Presidents Day is on Monday, February 20, 2012. What better way to celebrate than to print the likeness of Abraham Lincoln on an egg. (Thanks to johnny_automatic for the original SVG file.)
I’ve actually started trying something new, and instead of doing an outline and then filling it with lines, I just delete the outline and print the lines. This seems to work better for some pieces due to how things align. I’m sure I’ll be doing more testing between now and Easter.
