eBay bought Skype. Need I remind you I am not a fan of Skype?
Skype users, keep an eye on that terms of service and “end user license agreement” each time you are forced to install a new version. Expect subtle (or not so subtle) changes. You may not like them. Your options will be few. Think next time before choosing a proprietary product with proprietary protocols, blah, blah, blah… (head explodes…)
Oh, and even though I downloaded Skype 4 or 5 times, it should only count as 1 in my book… Keep that in mind when doing the math.

Good call on the changes to ‘terms of service’ – I guess this is really going to help Google Talk if it can match up in terms of current feature set of Skype.
Google Talk has the advantage of using XMPP, which is a nice standard. Hopefully they will do the right thing soon and connect up with the other Jabber servers/network.
I’ve been trying to use Skype for some time, but the Linux versions are really bad, even though we’re theoretically well out of beta. Currently, it won’t emit any audio ringing sound to let you know that you have an incoming call. It doesn’t support any of the sound daemons. It barely supports sound at all, which is kind of a problem in a telephony app. It tends to look a lot like an open-source fanatic’s caricature of the brain damage of proprietary software.
